• First you need to pick a domain name. Try to pick a name that is easily spelled. Try to pick something that reflects who and what you are.

• Decide on the look and feel for your site. What colors do you like, how many columns will you have. What information do you want to present, and in what order. I find that it helps to make a flowchart of your navigation scheme. Think in terms of main headings, sub headings, related info, etc.
• Gather up any text files, images, videos, sound files, Photos, Logos, graphic elements etc. that  you may want to use.
• Hire a professional designer that is proficient in both the technical and visual elements of designing for the internet. There are many sites created out there that are just hideous to look at. There are also many sites that don't function properly.
• When thinking about your site bear in mind that you will want to make changes, add new content, and features in the future. With this in mind you need to have a scalable approach.  I use JOOMLA based websites, which allows you to create and edit your content without the need to know any programming once the site is set up.
